Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am requesting assistance from all leaders with getting the Youth Protection Course completed by all of the registered leaders in our district.
This is an online course that only takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete. Besides being a requirement for all leaders to continue in their offices, it just ensures our youth that they indeed are getting "trained leaders" as guides to their futures. The course can be accessed on the Middle Tenessee Council website under the Training link. If anyone has any trouble accessing that site or link please email me and I will assist with getting anyone registered to take this course.
Once again Leaders, please, I need your help in getting this message out to all of our registered leaders, committee members and "direct contact" leaders.
Thank you all in advance,
Dan Beard District Training Chairman |

The Dan Beard District is in need of Trainers for our boy scout program at all levels. We conduct training courses throughout the year for the purpose of influencing the lives of our youth through the training of Scouting leaders.
To qualify you must be an experienced leader and at least 21 years of age, be willing to support and use the recommended literature, materials and procedures as outlined by BSA, and be prepared for all sessions to assure an exciting and worthwhile training experience.
I will help leaders understand their importance to scouting and take a personal interest in their success.
Leaders, I on behalf of the district training committee, am asking for your help with this endeavor because we need you. So anyone interested please contact me with your contact information as soon as possible.

Trained leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for Scouting units. When leaders understand Scouting, they are more effective in their roles.
So what does it mean to be "Trained", and what is required to receive the "Trained" patch? The following shows the natural sequence that leaders should follow to become "Trained".
- Fast Start: This online course provides useful training to help you understand how Scouting works.
- Youth Protection Training: This online course is required for all adult leaders, and focuses on safety for our youth.
- This is Scouting (Formally called "New Leader Essentials): This course used to be taught as part of Basic Training however it is now offered as an online course, this course helps the new leader understand what resources are available to them.
- Leader-Specific Training: Taught as part of Basic Training, these courses focus on helping you to accomplish your responsibilities. For some positions, this will also require completing the Outdoor Leader Essentias course. Contact the Dan Beard District Committee Training chairperson on when Leader specific courses will be offered both in the District and Council
- University of Scouting: Scout leaders can earn a Bachelors, Masters, and PHD in Cub Scouts, or Boy Scouts by continuing education beyond basic training and attending the Annual Dan Beard District University of Scouting.
- College of Commissioner Science: For Commisioners and those interested in joining the Commissioner ranks, the Middle Tennessee Council offers the annual College of Commissioner Science. The College is a 4 year program where Commissioners can earn a Bachelors, Masters, and PHD in Commissioner Science.
- Woodbadge for the 21st Century: Wood Badge is the premier adult leadership training program for the Boy Scouts of America. It teaches contemporary leadership and team development skills in an outdoor setting. Contact the Middle Tennessee Council for course dates.
- Philmont Training Center: the Philmont Training Center (PTC) provides a unique environment for the training of volunteer and professional leaders. Each year, more than 6,000 Scouters and family members attend PTC. Each Philmont training conference features the latest tools and techniques, audiovisuals, discussions, idea sharing, and activities led by a faculty of experienced Scouters. Invitation to these conferences is upon recommendation of the local council or a national committee
As in life, the need for improvement and learning of additional skills never stops. The Scouting program provides both ongoing and advanced training programs intended to help you as leader become more effective. These include: |
